Hotel Castel´Brando, ERBALUNGA

Hotel Castel´Brando, ERBALUNGA

Located in the Cap Corse area of Corsica, The Castel Brando is a charming boutique hotel in a 19th century mansion surrounded by splendid gardens with century-old palm trees. The house itself is a fine example of the type of stately home built by Corsicans who had emigrated to New World, and returned to the island once their fortunes had been made. Here, crisp-white walls and vaulted ceilings contrast with ancient terracotta floors, and the hotel has its own original antique furniture and decorative items, all creating a special ambience that is purely Corsican. The different buildings are connected by stone-paved lanes that lead to green, refreshing gardens and sunny terraces, where only birdsong and the murmuring of a small fountain disturb the quietness. Just nearby are the hotel's two swimming pools, one of which is heated, and the jacuzzi by which you can comfortably rest and sunbathe. The small lobby and its library is a warm, cosy space where you can sip tea or a glass of wine during cooler spring and autumn nights.

L´Hôtel Particulier, ARLES

L´Hôtel Particulier, ARLES

Here you will find the last of the Grand Hôtel particuliers built in Arles by a noble family. It is representative of the beautiful residences the Napoleonic nobility had built in Paris and its provinces at the beginning of the XIXth century. Guilaume Meiffren-Laugier became the mayor of Arles in 1824, and had a home built to feature his prominence : the Hôtel de Chartrouse, today known as the Hôtel particulier. In the 1826 Arles Almanach, it is documented that the baron de Chartrouse has erected an majestic abode that rivals those houses of the Chaussée d'Antin quarter in Paris. Indeed, the constituent structures gathered around the expansive courtyard is breathtakingly elegant. The gate entry is given character with adorning sculptures. The most important building is indeed very similar to those found in Paris during the 1820s, designed by architects Percier and Fountaine, especially the prominent modillion-enriched cornice, horizontally affixed on the building's facade.
